RADON EMISSION:
Recently much has been made of the potential emission of Radon gas from natural granite countertops.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency states:
"At this time, however, EPA does not believe sufficient data exist to conclude that the types of granite commonly used in countertops are significantly increasing indoor radon levels…
EPA believes the principal source of Radon in homes is soil gas that is drawn indoors through a natural suction process".*
While most Quartz surface (countertops produced from crushed natural stone mixed with color, dye and bonding resin) manufacturers claim indoor air quality for low off-gassing, none can claim to be "emission-free".
